There were many great Commanders and Leaders in the Mexican - American War, and they played a very big role.
The two main leaders were James K. Polk, and Lopez de Santa Anna. Without them, there could'v been a chance that there wasn't any war.

General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna was often known as "the Napoleon of the West". He was a Mexican political leader and a general. He was born in Jalapa in 1794, he followed his father into the Spanish royal service and enetered the army. He joined the political fray, but abandoned the Royalist cause in 1821 and supported indipendence. When the American-Mexican War struck, Santa Anna was currently living in Cuba. For a comeback, he returned to his native country and engineered a coup against the government. He installed himself as president once again. He failed ruling, when American won the war, and forced Santa Anna into exile. He made one more comeback, and in 1853, secured presidency for the 11th time. He later died in Mexico in 1876.
James K. Polk Served as the president of the United Staetes during the Mexican - American War. Polk grew up in Tennesse, and practiced law, and at age 30, became elected for congress as a Democrat in 1825. He left congress in 1823 to serve as a governor in Tenesse. At the 1844 democratic convention, Polk's political career was about to end until inter-party squabbles put him forward as a candidate for the president of the United States. He won the election for presidency by a thin margin. Polk left office in March 1849. He later died on June 15, 1849.
